Man Arrested for Accidental Murder of Baby in Stone-Throwing Incident
Masvingo, Zimbabwe - A 52-year-old man, Douglas Gwizangwe, has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in connection with the death of a baby who was struck by a stone thrown during a domestic dispute.
According to ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the incident occurred on April 9, 2025, at Munangari Village, Shongamiti, Chivi. Gwizangwe allegedly threw a stone at his ex-girlfriend but missed, hitting the baby, who was strapped to her back, on the eye. The baby succumbed to the injuries upon admission at Chiredzi Hospital.
In a separate incident, police in Shurugwi are seeking information to arrest Jimson Pikai Chimba Hlawu, suspected of murdering an artisanal miner at Ash 16 Gold Mine on April 10, 2025. The victim was stabbed multiple times with a sharp object.
The ZRP is appealing to anyone with information about Hlawu's whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
